Marking his recent appearance on Idol Gives Back, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, accompanied by his wife Melinda, largely discussed philanthropy with the American Idol host Ryan Seacrest focusing chiefly on the charitable endeavors of his Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Despite the fact that Bill Gates charitable efforts largely comprise the hardly pragmatic crap, his attempts over the ten years or so are, in fact, worthy of appreciation. The key goals of his Foundation include battling malaria, eradicating polio, inoculating children, and improving schools.

With the annual child mortality rate of nearly 9 million - which, though much less than the 20 million figure during the 1960s representing a deplorable situation, the Gates Foundation has handed over grants worth $21 billion, and is committed to extending another $10 billion, for delivering new vaccines over the coming decade.

With his pivotal message being that present-day talents should be utilized for making a genuinely meaningful contribution to the world, Gates cited an example that it is far better to work towards ending malaria than towards searching a cure for male baldness.

Indeed, the efforts made by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are a clear indication that Bill Gates, the once-tough businessman with unmatched competitive drive, has now directed his energies towards making the Foundation one of the greatest private forces, helping out people in the underdeveloped countries.

  • If he has the opportunity to "be in front of cameras" to spread awareness of a cause, why wouldn't he? He's not building his image. He truly cares.

  • @shadowC10ne Im sorry that the video was worded poorly, but it doesn't change the fact that the far more likely scenario is that the title meant that bill gates is on A.I and is giving back.

  • @googoo120 Yeah it's a show but notice the video title "Bill Gates American Idol Gives Back." It could've stand "American Idol - Bill Gates Gives Back" to refer to the show and a clip from the show. So I was referring to title of the video.

  • @shadowC10ne its idol because its american idol, he isnt supposed to be the idol

  • @googoo120 trust me, Bill isn't a "nice guy". During his company's rise he even betrayed his best friends and stole their software. And if you are familiar with Microsoft's campaign against any opposition to it's dominance you'd know he isn't good guy. Trust me - image build-up!

  • @shadowC10ne or to inspire more charity?

  • "Idol" gives back? Whose idol is he? If you want to do charity do it without cameras. People who do charities just for being in front of cameras usually do it for image build-up.

  • nice one...
