Mildred "Micky" Axton was laid to rest at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Wichita, Kansas July 23, 2010. In Wichita, KS, July 23rd is now MICKY AXTON DAY. Micky Axton was a WASP during World War II and is the first woman to pilot the Boeing B-29 Superfortress. She was a wife, mother, school teacher and above all, she was a woman pilot. She was a member of the Commemorative Air Force Jayhawk Wing in Wichita, KS for many years. The Kansas Air National Guard did full military honors with an all woman Honor Guard. The all woman Honor Guard was a first! They did it that way to honor Micky Axton and the WASP (Woman Airforce Service Pilots) aviation women of World War II. www.mickyaxton.com
