This video documents how I change my lenses in the field, standing up, with minimum exposure to dust. It is appropriate for larger and more expensive lenses. I did this for an added post to my blog here:

I probably need to join a club or something to get more hints from more experienced photographers....

But since I have not done that I come up with my own stuff.

I hate dust. I have had shoots ruined by a big dust spot on my sensor...that was not there before the shoot.

Changing lenses is an opportunity for the dust to get in on the sensor or on the back end of the lens.

One think I always wondered was how to change lenses when your are out and about and there is not helper, no table, or any flat spot around. In other words you have to do it standing.

So I developed my own technique. Pls check it out on my blog here:

Be kind though as its my first video posting to a blog. I need to work on my video skills.

  • the longest time lens change in the world.. boooooorrrrrringgg

  • If apple was every going into DSLRs, this guy could be the "Hi Im a canon guy"

  • Geeez.. i know hes trying to help but ten minutes? Go shoot and leave people figure out this stuff on their own.. and blowing with your mouth is just WRONG if you care about your gear so much..

  • There's seriously no reason for all of you to be a bunch of sh*t bags to this guy. He's trying to be constructive. If it's not useful to you, then don't watch it. We're fortunate to have all of this FREE advice as opposed to spending money on workshops, books, etc., so friggin' pipe it & be respectful.

  • 36 seconds to change from one lens to the other...

  • It takes me 3 seconds to change from a f1.8 50mm to a 75-300mm on a canon t3

  • geeeeezzzzzz.......here is my solution to minimize dust in the lens and camera:

always keep the opening down or away from the eliments

    minimize time exposed

and have your caps ready to facilitate this

    IT IS NOT THAT DIFFICULT......

  • Hes trying to be constructive and help people which has to be a good thing.

Of course you can moan and disagree but the more info you have the better.

SO>> I thought this was good.

  • why can't he just use both his hands. I usually remove the back lens cap and then remove the lens on camera and switch on the other and I have heavy lenses 24-70/70-200 f2.8. seems pretty dumb to keep the camera dangling without cover, only wud work at home environment but then why do u need to do it at home

  • @loimain05 Huh? Why? Do you slobber?
