I love his work. Granted I've only read a few of his books but I loved them all. My dad read them to me when I was younger. I think it was The Dog who Wouldn't Be, then Owls in the Family which is one of my favorites. Then later my dad got an audiobook of Never Cry Wolf from the library, read by Mowatt himself. He taped it for me but I lost it in the course of the many moves I've made throughout my life. It was abridged somewhat but still great. I wasn't too keen on the movie though.

I revere Farley Mowat for his conservationist/ecologist stands. I agree that And No Birds Sang is an outstanding book on Canadian fighting during WWII going up the Italian "boot". I would say it's the best anti-war book I've ever come across. He's a master story teller.
Btw, in his Wikipedia entry, his ethnicity is labelled as "white"., a vague descriptor that stands for British. The entry should read " British Canadian"
