We've been running sessions, which have lead to street theatre so that the young people can share with their community what trafficking is. This video is one of our groups rehearsing.
We've also been running START FREEDOM lesson. One of which was with a group of girls aged 12-18 years old. As the lesson went on some of the girls shared their stories of having been trafficked, mainly for forced labour. Heres two of their stories
As a little girl Accamma was sent for domestic labour, as her family needed money. Her work was too much, she was not given enough to eat and would be beaten up if she refused to listen to her owner. She was not allowed to meet or call her family. Accamma managed to escape from the house 2 years ago and returned home.
Sarita, another girl aged 16 was made to work as a domestic labourer by her uncle. She was made to stay up to 2.30 am in the morning as she had to look after a little baby in the house. She was woken by 5 am and was expected to start the household chores. She was not given enough food and was beaten if she refused to do what she was told. At the beginning of every month her uncle would come and get her wages from her employer. One day Sarita made her escape and came back to her home.
