JS Bach's Prelude Number 1 from the Well Tempered Clavier (BWV 846). I had a hard time selecting a tempo for this piece. I have heard enjoyable performances of it that were ploddingly slow and blisteringly fast. I chose somewhere in between.

I have received several requests for information about the version of this piece I am playing. It is transcribed by Carlo Carfagna and I purchased it at http://www.guitargallerymusic.com/index.php The product number is 564001000.

  • Isn't this called Ave Maria?

  • Yes and no. Bach wrote this prelude first. It is my understanding that Charles Gounod later used the prelude as an accompaniment to Ave Maria.

  • Goo job Bob. Nice flowing lines.

Wasn't it Schubert who originally arranged it for Ave Maria?

    Catherine.

  • Bravo ! One of my favorites by Bach ,it rarely sounds satisfactory on the guitar but you succeeded brilliantly in this rendition .
