  • You are pretty fit for a 65 yr old guy! I'd be decrepit by then.

  • @geepeeone Funny! Hey seriously, tennis can keep you fit for a lifetime.

A little off court cardio also helps. I get on the stationary a 2-3 times a week for about 30 minutes, do some simple stretch bands for my arms, and also some no brainer crunchies.

Stretching is really important as we get older.

All said, it ain't an exact science for staying young, but tennis is such a great sport for us older farts ...

  • Transitionally volley in doubles. They jam it back to my feet and I have not reacted quick enough. I think I am trying to charge too far towards the service box, split step late and therefore do not have enough time to react and move out of the way to attempt a decent half volley.

  • @surfjabroni Right. As we move forward into the court, especially in doubles, we geometrically get closer to the ball which means the chances go up that the ball will be coming back at us on a path that forces us to get out of the way of that incoming path.

The timing of the split step is to help you get out of the way of that path. Try splitting a little sooner and don't worry about having to go from baseline to inside the service line without playing a shot.

  • Hi Brent,

Transitional volley after serve (doubles nad singles) and with an approach shot (mainly singles, oftentimes doubles as I `forget to get to the net`, haha).

Great minute showing how you volley from different angles. I got stuck on the idea that one had to be at the T or service line to hit the first (transitional) volley, and as I am not Stephan Edberg.... well I lose points there! :(. It feels more like a graveyard than a springboard to win points actually. :)

  • @BrunoCoutant Hey Bruno. It takes a while, but eventually you'll relax and take much more time with your transitional shots as you realize that there is no value for rushing through that area or rushing through the shot.

  • Happy new year too, Brent. Thanks for your videos. Keep them coming... God bless.

  • @surfjabroni Bret I played three half volley pickups in my singles match today. I made 2 of them and won both points purely from being aggressive and closing the net after a strong serve. Thanks mate!

  • Brent, you look very young compared to 65.

  • Brent, you're not nearly as old as your graphics were. ; )

Nice new look with the same, sensible instruction. Looking forward to more.

  • Hey Brent, Happy New Year!

Great coaching uploads, best on the net by a long way.

    Thanks, Joe

  • Don't worry about getting old my friend...you got good genes...sorta a whole Robert Conrad / Chuck Connors thing going on there.

  • @Xushaoxi You're right. I've got a bit too much of the blah, blah, blah affliction.

    That'll be my 2012 resolution ...

    Brent
