This is raw, pounding garage at its finest. The Confusions were from Madras,India and featured in the 1970 All India Simla Beat contest, organised by the India Tobacco Company. These battle-of-the-bands were held annually and the 1970 and 1971 contestants were featured on EMI subsidiary LPs.These two LPs were re-issued as a double album in 1997.Earlier a single compilation called "Strangers From A Strange Land" had been issued in 1971.This was my introduction to these amazing Indian garage bands which sounded like their American counterparts.
This track was also one side of a 45 single, coupled with The Dinosaurs' Sinister Purpose, another classic.

    Definietly!

  • "sounded like their American counterparts" - indeed! Listen to Jefferson Airplane's 'Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil'.

  • @Zv5Q8

Great spot! You are so, so right.Happy New Year!1 ;-)

  • One would never expect something like this to come out of India of all places. Sort of the same concept as Thai heavy metal: it just doesn't seem to blend very well. But these Confusions pulled it off nicely.

  • @HarvestmanMan

Yes it is remarkable how American garagey they sound, as do the other bands of the Simla Beat era. The West was inspired by the East and the East was inspired by the West!! Perfect reciprocation. Thank you for your feedback. :-)

  • @zzenzero It does sound like Hammond, especially during the chorus. But I wonder if they had Hammond in India back then. Well, maybe the band didn't have their own one but they could use one from a studio.

  • @MarcinMinkowski

    I haven't a clue ... Madras 1970. Hammond? But pretty good organ. :)

  • I like the organ sound on this recording. What kind is it?

  • @hollowmenrule

Well put! Also, once your senses are tuned to raw and garage, it feels like honey and nectar. I'm more of a hapster, and yes, it's nice to celebrate the contrary in life. If 99% of people say you are wrong ... then you must be right. :)
