A standing-room only audience gathered at The Actors Company Theater in Manhattan for "Performing New Lives: A Conversation with Artists Behind Bars on the Power and Potential of Prison Theatre." The evening was hosted by Lois Holzman and featured presentations by eight artists, educators and activists -- Brent Buell, Sharon Lajoie, John McCabe-Juhnke, Meade Palidofsky, Teya Sepinuck, Jonathan Shailor, Julia Taylor and Jean Trounstine -- who have created/facilitated prison theater programs around the country. The presenters are among the 17 authors featured in Performing New Lives: Prison Theatre, a collection of essays edited by Shailor and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
