- There's instructions at boot on the key you need to press to enter the BIOS. Usually F11 or F12
- By UBANUS I assume you mean Ubuntu, all you need to do is burn it onto a CD and boot from it.
- All of your data, including the OS is on the HDD.

I need your Help. I just got myself a 2nd hand X40. Would like to know how do I get into the BIOS ? How do I install get to install another o/s, WIN2000, UBANUS or another o/s ? Where is the WIN XP PRO installed ... on the HDD, chip etc ? Thanks in advance. Andy

night and day difference. I went to the loo and came back to the video and it was still booting off the conventional hard drive. With the ssd, saying "blink and you'll miss it" is not far off the mark. I'm getting a 128 gig one for my dell lappy shortly.

Hi, I'm thinking of buying this drive ... did you fix your problem?

i just purchased the same but am having trouble getting the x40 to recognize it. I have bios 2.08 and the kingspec is listed there but it will not boot from it. is there a setting or a step i missed? any help would be appreciated. thank you!

Hey this is great.
I also have X40...
Which SSD disk did you install and where did you buy it (and for how much?)
thanks,John
These 4200RPM drives are so ridiculously slow, I literally hit the power button and go into another room to make breakfast or something before I bother coming back to see if it has booted.
In addition to knowing what SSD drive you used, I'm interesting in hearing what X to IDE converter you used (ie how you set this up 'cause I'd love to give it a go.)

The SSD I got was plug and play, a direct replacement for the 1.8" drive. I baught it of ebay called the kingspec 32Gig SSD for 165 US. I works great I would order one today. you just search for thinkpad x40 SSD and it will show up in the list.
