SEE HUNDREDS OF BED BUGS FEED ON RESEARCHER LOU SORKIN'S ARM.

In a scene straight out of Bill Schutt's fact-filled book, Dark Banquet: Blood and the Curious Lives of Blood-Feeding Creatures, bed bug expert Lou Sorkin shows off his research colony of before letting hundreds of the tiny vampires bite his arm and drink his blood (this the only way he can feed them... really). Note: The paperback version of Dark Banquet contains a wealth of information on bed bugs and their current resurgence. It is now available in paperback (Three Rivers Press) for around $8 (or less) at places like Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, and indiebound.org.

"Dark Banquet" (Harmony Books) received dozens of great reviews and was chosen as one of the "Best Books of 2008" by Amazon.com and Library Journal. Fans include world famous scientist E.O. WIlson and Alice Cooper (who read excerpts on his radio show). Besides bed bugs, Dark Banquet features chapters on blood and blood-letting, vampire bats, leeches, ticks, mites, and even the vampire catfish (candiru), a creature infamous for swimming up the human urethra.

Dark Banquet is available wherever books are sold.

  • at what point in your life do you determine to be a "bed bug expert" and further more decide your love for bed bugs brings you to feeding them..in such a manner...or in any manner at all..weird.

I'm not a bed bug expert, nor do I have a love for them. I'm a vertebrate zoologist (bats are my specialty) who wrote a book about blood-feeding creatures and interviewed Lou Sorkin (a world renowned entomologist) for that book. Lou's specialty happens to be bed bugs - a SERIOUS problem in the U.S. and elsewhere.

  • Why dont they feed on each other. dont they have bllod

  • Now take that jar, hold it firmly, and pound some sense into your head with it.

  • "Viewer Advisory: Resist the temptation to do this at home."

Who has the "temptation" to do this?

    O.o

  • @dchs14 liar lol. they're called "bed bugs"!!!

  • It is a huge problem in Canada too. I have respect for what you're doing. If it weren't for people like you, dogs wouldn't be trained to sniff them out and we wouldn't have pesticides to kill them. A library close to where I live was infested with them. Putting yourself in misery (I've heard the bites are really itchy and can hurt) for research is so heroic and you're not testing on animals, you're testing on yourself.

  • this guy is more idiotic than a nigger. dear god

  • @local321 well good thing there might be even more bed bugs in your couch than some beds haha
