  • Wells is a great winemaker. I am a proud Copain mailing list buyer. Wonderful stuff and Wells is a great guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him for a tasting and dinner in NYC.

  • Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching! Yeah, Wells was very cool and you can tell he loves wine and winemaking. Did you go to the dinner at CRU? I'd love to hear your impressions from that dinner, I wasn't able to attend.

  • Hey. No I went to one 2 years ago at Craft. He was pouring 2005's and some other library wines from older vintages. The number of wines we got to taste was terrific. I think it was 10 or 12 with many not even in bottle yet. He spoke of each vineyard as we drank the wine. Very nice.

  • Sounds like a great dinner. Did you have 2004 Garys' syrah that night? I wonder what it tasted like young - it was one of my favorites from my recent barrel tasting trip there. Gonna have another bottle tonight, but would've loved to have had it back when it was still a barrel sample to understand its evolution.

  • Even the library wines, there was no 04 Gary's there.

  • Ah, thanks. If you haven't had it at another time, I highly recommend it, especially knowing that you're a Copain fan - you can still buy it direct from Copain, I believe. Just getting some age on it now, and it's drinking great. Rhone-like spice, but also great, floral aromatics.

  • He did not have a Gray's wine then or didn't bring it. The barrels were 2005 only. Thompson, Mcdowell Valley and 4 or 5 others. We had the viognier as a starter. He poured a lot. It was really good. Too good actually. We were a bit trashed. lol
