The song takes its title from an old Louis Jordan song called "Reet, Petite and Gone" and was co-written by Motown founder, Berry Gordy, and Jackie's cousin Tyran Carlo (aka Billy Davis). "Reet Petite" was Jackie's first solo release on Brunswick after leaving the Dominoes where he had replaced Clyde McPhatter as lead vocalist. It was a much bigger hit in the UK than here (only reaching #62 in September of 1957), but the money Berry Gordy made from this song, helped him found Motown Records.

  • @xExpressUrSelfx Shit but the jackie

  • To hear it so clear and with that bass and horn! You can just see him singing it and what rhythm! Thanks ever so much for the post. Raised on this stuff, my parents were always listening to music, late fifities, mid sixties! And Dance! Good example, my mom 75 just went to see Aretha last night after battling cancer and chemo, she's a survivor and still a great dancer! Rock On! Keep those songs a coming!

  • I had been looking for this song for suc a longgg time... I heard once when I was a kid and I coouldn't stop humming it. Then, I never heard it again and the rythm was going round and round in my mind.. I only remembered that sticky "She's soo fineeee" and the "Oh oh oh, oh oh oh". I'm glad I came across with it after more than 25 years.
