Madeira approach

This is a landing of a Boeing 738 (Air Berlin) at the Aeroporto de Madeira [LPMA]. Our flight started in Dresden [EDDC] / GERMANY via Lanzarote [GCRR] / CANARY ISLANDS. We approached to land from the south, as you can see in the charts. After we touched down (boah, this low turn seconds before! wow!, you can hear the women crying out :D) we only needed about 700m to stop!!!
(I think the captain jumped on the breaks :D! Actually the runway is 2.777 m long! )

This airport is infamous for difficult landings because of dangerous windshears coming over the near high mountains and of cause the turn you have to fly before landing on RWY05. That's why some people call it the "Kai Tak of Europe".

But it is a great approach, I really love it and I really love the airport, too, so I hope I'll get back there in some years again!!!

@skymedia2009 gibts da denn auch strände?´oder is das meiste nur am hang´? wirklich geiler anflug!! würd da auch gern ma landen bzw mich an den airport stellen und aufnahmen machen ;D

@MyEmpire91 Strände ja, aber die sind meistens relativ klein und - abgesehen von einem in Machico - bestehend aus Kies und auch größeren Steinen!

Der Flughafen ist sehr schön vor allem für 'Spotter': das Terminal hat eine offene Dachterasse mit direktem Blick auf's Vorfeld und die Landebahn und von der Straße direkt nördlich und parallel zur Startbahn hat man auch einen sehr schönen Blick!

Richtig schön! Man kann auch wunderbar sehen wie die Spoilers beim TD rauskommen! Einfach fantastisch und dieser wunderbare 90° turn kurz vor Final ist eine wunderbare sache! War ein sehr guter Pilot den ihr da hattet! Der hats sehr gut hinbekommen!

Tivat, Montenegro is also called the "European Kai Tak" because before you land, you are coming in between two mountains then you make a left turn 100 meters before the runway. Check the LYTV approach :)
