Shufflin' to everyday I'm shufflin'
"Party Rock Anthem" is a song performed by American electro hop recording duo LMFAO, featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock. It was released as the first single from their second album Sorry for Party Rocking in 2011. It interpolates lyrics from Rick Ross' song "Hustlin". [1] The single has gone to number one in Australia, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. It also reached top five in Norway and Italy. The song spent eleven weeks at number one in New Zealand and ten weeks in Australia. It is the longest-running number one single in New Zealand since Smashproof's hit single "Brother" in 2009, selling over 45,000 copies there, whereas in Australia, it is the longest-running number-one single since "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair)" by Sandi Thom in 2006 and the best-selling single of 2011 and decade so far there. "Party Rock Anthem" is a mostly electronic composition, and features a sample from Soft Cell's Tainted Love as well as Eric Prydz's single "Call on Me" from 2004. It has sold over 2,500,000 digital downloads in the United States[2] and reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.[3]
The music video, choreographed by Quest Crew members Hokuto Konishi, Victor Kim, Ryan Conferido, and Ryan Feng, is a parody of the 2002 horror film 28 Days Later. The opening caption explains that Redfoo and SkyBlu both fell into a coma due to "excessive party rocking", and that their single was released the following day. Following the caption "28 DAYS LATER", both Redfoo and Skyblu are seen in a deserted hospital, waking up from their coma in a style similar to that of Cillian Murphy's character in the original film. The director Mickey Finnegan states that "The concept of the video, there's been an epidemic, the world has gone crazy, as soon as the song came out, everyone got possessed and all they want to do is to shuffle, everyone is a shuffler."
They exit the hospital to a deserted street, full of litter and abandoned cars. One of the abandoned cars on the street has a vanity license plate that reads "GQ CUTS," the La Puente, California hair styling business which provided styling service for the video shoot, according to the behind the scenes video posted on the shop's website. They then spot a man shuffling to Party Rock Anthem on his iPhone before they are quickly grabbed by a man in a dress-shirt (played by Malcolm Goodwin), a parody of the zombie apocalypse video game Left 4 Dead character Louis, who hides them behind a car and explains to them that since the single came out, everyone across the world simply "shuffles" all day long and then hands them the Beats by Dr. Dre earphones. Soon, the street is filled with "shufflers", including label mate, Colette Carr, all dancing to the song. When another young man tries to escape from a building, he is approached by the dancers and subsequently "infected", as he begins to dance too where his clothes are changed from a hoodie to a "Hi Mom!" T-Shirt.
Redfoo and SkyBlu both insert earpieces, and are told to play along. Scared after watching what happened to the other young man, they begin to dance along with the others, pretending to be infected too. The rest of the video is filled with shots of the dancers and LMFAO performing complex choreography along the deserted street, interspersed with shots of LMFAO, Lauren Bennett and GoonRock at night time, singing in front of a car in an alley. Halfway through the video, the previously uninfected young man dances towards Redfoo and SkyBlu, who look terrified. In the next shot, it appears that they have been infected too, as they sing "Every day I'm shuffling", and begin to dance with the rest of the infected. The video features product placement with Skyblu picking up a bottle of Fentimans Cherry Tree Cola (4:21).
The video finishes with the caption and voice-over "Every day I'm shufflin".
The Dance/Shuffle is a loose representation of the Dance known as the 'Melbourne Shuffle' after its birthplace in Melbourne, Australia.
The video features Quest Crew, winners of America's Best Dance Crew season 3.
