i don't know if it's particularly anti union. jack warden's character isn't a bona fide union official, he's just a chiseller!

Just saw the gut-wrenching movie, "Edge of the City"... While it boils down to a story of bullying, which is at times a big element in American society. There are also terribly strong undercurrents of America's belligerent race relations that which erupt in our history like devastating earthquakes. I wonder if the longshoremen are still part of New York's harborlife. As much as I was taken by the movie, it saddens me that it presents a very anti-union subliminal message. The story also shows wh

Geez, I remember seeing this and "A Patch of Blue " on either Bravo or AMC, back when they were truly dedicated to showing movies, usually without any interruption. Excellent screenplays, with terrific actors. So that was about 15-18 years ago. I don't think I've seen "Edge of the City" since. Any art-house movie theatres doing Poitier films should get this if possible.

Amazing Movie !!!!!!! SO ahead of its time ....
In so many ways the film could be transported to today and sadly, yet interestingly be 100 percent relevant to today .... including the diction, hairstyles, clothing and plot .. Anyone know where I can buy.download the film ?

Great performances from Potier, Cassevates, and Warden. Also a good performance from the gorgeous Ruby Dee.

A very powerful film... REALLY worth watching, with a very, very powerful final scene.

While produced over fifty years ago, and not widely known or available, Edge of the City remains a very important part of cinema history!
