This video gives a lovely warning to all genealogists using a computer to record all of their genealogical data:
ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR FILES - onto a disk, a flash drive, a harddrive, server, internet - anything that makes it available to you should a disaster (such as a tornado or a virus hitting your computer) so that you are prepared and can maintain that data.

  • I use Passage Express to organize my genealogy & make CDs for reunions. That way if something happens to my genealogy, say a disaster, I have family members that have backups.

  • Yes - that is so important! Especially with all the floods, tornados, hurricanes, fires - whatever - it is so important to make sure that your genealogy isn't destroyed. That is why I upload my genealogy to 3 different websites about 2 times a month.

I also keep all my paper files and pictures/photoalbums in a metal file cabinet. While it is heavy, I could always push it. My dad can also pick it up on his own. It just makes me feel safe until all the photos are scanned.

  • I don't have basically any of my genealogy on my computer other than pictures. I got everything in my desk and if i get a fire im so screwed but i got no desire of putting it all the computer. I just print out all the passenger lists, censuses, and all other records and keep them in paper. I like your videos a lot and i think you're really good looking too...
