Music © 1982 Marty Haugen
Latin Translation by Peter Mottola

Hoc in loco lux lucens nova
Tenebrae nunc evanescuntur
Vide nostrorum metus somniaque
Lati tibi hoc aprico die.

Congrega nos, perditi et relicti
Congrega nos, caeci claudique
Voca nos et exsuscitabimur
Nomen sonatus tunc oriemur.

Juvenes quorum vitae occultae
Et senes qui quaeritamus te
Cantabamur per cunctam historiam
Et luci mundi vocati sumus.

Congrega nos, divites superbi
Congrega nos, qui contumaces
Da nobis cor humile miteque
Ut carmen audacter ingrediamur.

Hic vinum accepimus et aquam
Hic accepimus panem vitae
Vocabis filios filiasque
Vocati denuo sal terrae esse.

Dona vinum miserationis
Dona nobis panem quod es tu
Nutri bene et doce nos facere
Vitas sanctas atque corda vera.

Neque domi nec aliquo caelo
Spatium lucis longe annuae
Hoc in loco, lux radiens nova
Hodie regnum, nunc jam dies.

Congrega nos, et tene in saeculum
Congrega nos, et tui nos fac
Congrega nos, omne nationem
Ignis amoris in visceribus.

  • This is a really bad translation.

  • @enaletheia I'm open to suggestions! Feel free to leave me any revisions here in the comments, or send me a private message.

  • This had to be recorded by someone trying to ensure that nobody would ever ask for another Latin hymn!

  • Very generous of you! Now we who love the Extraordinary Form can sing it at Mass too! Thank you so much! :)

  • Nope, still just as bad in Latin though probably in part because I know the melody so well, too many visions of women dramatically acting out the words in the front of the church.

  • @wishourselvesaway Amen++

  • @enaletheia

Funny how people notice bad English to Latin translations, but not bad Latin to English translations.

  • Dear Lord,

Please forgive Marty Haugen for polluting churches across the world with his tacky banal hymns,

I'm sure he was unaware of how painful such music could make Masses become.

    Amen

  • Dude im catholic n i really hope that wasnt during Mass. For starters. there needs to b a blaring organ. It really makes the song. like a zealous organist is what the song should call for on every piece of sheet music in the song. second there needs to b either a chorus singin it (no old ladies! sorry but ive heard too many old lady versions were one ester's tone deafness ruined it) and thirdly it needs to b done in HD cuz there is like no good videos out there. The best can only b heard at Mass

  • Syncopated Latin... haha

  • @flyfree432 Yeah music like Haugen's to me just doesn't sound like stuff that's suitable for even the least reverent of OF Masses...But at least this guy tried to make it better. If I were a music director at a parish, and I were told that I had to do any of that OCP stuff, I'd be out the door faster than you could say "Latin Mass."

  • Congrega Nos...Lol!

So, did you translate all that yourself? There's a much more reverent hymn, "Cross of Jesus," which I would like to get translated into Latin. I think that would sound beautiful.

  • This is blasphemy against a sacred language.

  • Not even Latin can save this song.....
