WARNING: Vulgarities and possibly offensive content.

Here's my silly and sometimes lame and awkward translation. I did this because the other vids are me going "huh huh, look at that guy, huh huh lolzz" like a hundred times.

So I just translated what people said and subbed it, ignoring the little speech balloons of people in the background. Those usually say stuff like "Oh man, I want ice cream!" anyway.

I did something I don't normally do when I translate. I usually like to use English-language terms when possible for idiomatic terms, but I let maybe 3 of them slip through this time because I think it's the standard these days. I usually don't like it because it's like...c'mon, you ding-dong translators why are you saying "-san" every other damn word and throwing "desu" around like some 4-chan Sailor Moon doll-having dude? But I figured people probably already knew these, plus the approaches to translating them would be awkward.

"Aniki" = "Big brother." But it's not like people usually really call their brothers "aniki." This word is used by kids to older dudes they look up to, but also by yakuza to their close elders. I could have used "big brother," but that's a little awkward and might cause a little confusion, and I could have just ignored it or used a word like "boss," but that wouldn't have carried the same feeling, so, yeah. When Kido uses this, he's referring to Arai.

"Oyaji" = "Daddy." This is for your immediate yakuza family boss. I used it for the same reason I use "aniki." Almost everyone saying "oyaji" in this vid mean Kanemura.

"-chan" comes from "-san." I'm sure most people know "-san" (like "Daniel-san"). This is a diminuitive form and used to people who are younger than you, or like...you know, lower than you in the company, or whatever.

Sorry for leaving those in if it offends anyone, but...yeah. Enjoy!

Oh, also, for those who will complain about the swearing, who think they don't hear dirty words in Japanese, trust me...the words they use for things like "you" or the ways they slur words together and stuff mean they're using really rough speech you'd probably get slapped for using in reality. So swear words are appropriate.

  • @ryled I doubt it they alread cut half the NA demo so I think sega will still be a bitch

  • @ryled

Yeahh! I only really use yr yakuza walkthroughs for finding the sub stroies and extra moves and stuff. It actually might be a good thing you havent posted it yet cuz i might read the entire story and spoil it for myself lol. March 15th cant come any slower :/

  • @thegantz87

Yeah, I see what you mean. I hope they did learn their lesson and only cut Answer x Answer (which is still unfortunate; a quiz game in English would be pretty fun)

Heh, I'm making progress. It's a little slow but at least I'm working on it again! I already wrote up the battle part, I might just post a partial walkthrough (I hate doing that, tho'...except for Yakuza 2, which I posted only a partial walkthrough for because for some reason I figured it'd never make it to English and abandoned the club girls)

  • @ryled well thats what i meant with the western version (only one being voiced in english) plus i think sega learned a lesson from the last time they ignored the fans of yakuza. i dont know about the psp version, but i feel pretty good in the end coming over... i doubt we'll ever see the samurai version though...which would be nice...but doubtful

  • @ryled

Yeah the fighting was cool. Btw have you made any progress on the walkthrough? The game drops in a few weeks and some of us might need it lol.

  • @ryled

Yeah the demo was mad fun! Oh btw have you made any progress with the walkthrough? The game drops in a few weeks and we will need it for 100%..

At least the fighting is pretty cool. All 4 dudes are crazy powerful, especially once you've fully built them up. Tanimura can basically take anyone out so long as he has the Heat energy, besides bosses, in one attack. All he has to do is reverse to get behind, then stun them, then do the handcuff move. Saejima is a beast. He fights in the arena like Kiryû, but unlike Kiryû manhandles everyone like little ragdolls (including Komaki).

  • @ryled

Nope dead serious lol. It took 30 minutes to download and when i started the demo i was like WTF!!

Naw, they had 3. Ryû ga Gotoku was localized as Yakuza. They dubbed it—even had Mark Hammill, of Star Wars and Batman: The Animated Series fame, as Majima Gorô. Then they ported its sequel as Yakuza 2, ignored the side game, Ryû ga Gotoku KENZAN! (set in the samurai era), and localized the third modern-day sequel, Yakuza 3. But they cut a lot of content (like 20% of the game). Who knows if they'll bring the PSP sequel and upcoming zombie side game over!
