I am a Dental Hygienist that has treated Heroin and Meth patients. Meth ruins the teeth due to smoking the drug. It is the caustic and flammable chemicals used to cook the meth that are released from smoking it. Neglect does play a major role in the destruction of the teeth, however, a Meth addicts destruction is mainly due the caustic caustic chemicals introduced to the oral cavity. A Horoin addicts destruction is mostly from increased plaque, tartar, and neglect.

Meth is so bad...seen some really bad cases...let's not forget how bad soda pop is bad too. Eats away at the enamel. I don't allow my children to consume more than three sodas a week .

does SNORTING (not smoking) meth cause that?

Think of how painful that must be to even eat or breath! Just another reason why Drugs are retarded!

Meth is pretty much a silent epidemic here but I never seen addicts with "meth mouths" like that. I also never seen anyone with lesions or something resembling deformity. I think this is more of a hygiene problem + lifestyle + drug use. Not necessarily the drug itself. Solvent and marijuana addicts are easier to spot as well which is why I referred to meth as silent epidemic.

This is alarming. Government should do more effort to restriction on drug taking.

@tinytoes409 I was living in a rental property in Byrdstown TN and lived in a home that was used to manufacture the stuff. When winter hit I turned on the heat and unbenownst to me meth had been poored down the vents during a raid on the house and I became ill over time, and now my teeth are starting to crumble at the gum line no matter how I try to take care of them, I have never neglected oral hygien and now this is happening.Any suggestions on what I might do?

Hey Derek 799
That is one reason why pot became illegal. The main reason has to do with Randolph Hearst's financial interest in lumber based paper mills. He owned many of them and was outbid by marijuana based paper mills. He financed movies like Reefer Madness and created stories in his papers about how pot people crazy.
The reason it affects the teeth is that meth users neglect oral hygiene. This is simply gum disease. People that don't use meth get the same thing.
Methamphetamine is a prescription drug, made by Abbott. It's called Desoxyn. Used in that context, it causes none of these effects.

@dooberheim From Drugs.com website for Desoxyn: "Tolerance to the anorectic effect usually develops within a few weeks." and "Sudden death has been reported in association with CNS stimulant treatment at usual doses in children and adolescents with structural cardiac abnormalities or other serious heart problems."
