Something Weird Reefer Madness

When Reefer Madness hit the midnight movie circuit in the early 1970s, it became the most famous roadshow film ever. But long before it ever played to hippies watching it through a purple haze, Reefer Madness was scaring the bejeezus out of teens and their parents in the '30s and '40s under titles as diverse as Tell Your Children, The Burning Question, Dope Addict, and our favorite, Doped Youth (which also happens to be the title on the beautiful-looking print).

Pompous Dr Carroll (JOSEF FORTE), principal of a high school, sets a group of parents straight by telling them "the real facts behind the case" of Mae Coleman (THELMA WHITE). Mae and her pal, Jack (CARLETON YOUNG), use her apartment as a dope den for getting the local school kids hooked on the evil weed. Mae: "I wish you'd lay off those kids." Jack: "Oh, why don't you get over that mother complex!" - Something Weird

Back in the Seventies they used to have midnight showings of "Reefer Madness" at movie theatres. You could smoke there in those days. Everyone smoked weed and laughed at the movie like it was the funniest comedy ever made. It's nothing new - Cab Calloway advocated it in the 1940's. My Grandma even used to tell us that she used to smoke it back in the Roaring Twenties.

"See this important film now before its too late" lucky for me i saw the movie before it was too late, so i was able to enjoy the ounces and lids years after, when i was low on dough i had to buy nickels and dimebags, even had to smoke old roaches when things were bad.
