After doing the Jungle Strike theme, I felt the need to do more than simply re-voice a video game's theme note-for-note with my own performances. This time, I wanted to see what inspiration the video game composer drew from to make a song in the first place, and then draw on it a bit more myself. To me, the intro to the Guile theme from Street Fighter II sounds a bit like the intro to Cheap Trick's "Mighty Wings" song from Top Gun, a movie whose influence is clearly evident in both the Guile character and his stage setting. Guile is essentially Top Gun with bigger biceps and big blond hair. So why not make the Guile theme sound a bit like "Mighty Wings," with my own improvised solo near the end, played to bits of Top Gun and Guile gameplay footage? This project was considerably harder to do than my other recordings, since I had to compose and arrange as well as the usual practice, perform, record, edit, mix and master, but here is about a month of my efforts, FINALLY done. Holy hell, I don't want to hear this song again for a while. Gameplay footage is courtesy of marioconquer.
