Watching bullets break the sound barrier, times three; at distances of 200 and 300 yards. The greatest majority of shooting shown here was at 300 yards. Camera was positioned behind and slightly above the shooting setup, and zoomed at various degrees for each segment. Beginning at 1:38, the final three segments are at normal speed....I just kicked it up a few notches on the trigger! Also, I plan to try this again at 500 yards or longer.....in an open field.

Viewable in 1920 x 1080 HD if you have the bandwidth. By choosing the 720HD or 1080HD view settings, you can best see the bullet trails.

EQUIPMENT: AR15 Bushmaster Varminter, .223 Remington, 24" barrel with 1:9 twist. Fiocchi 55 gr FMJ. Scope is a Leupold Mark III, 4.5 x 14 x 50mm. Target is an 8" x 16" steel popper from Mike Gibson Targets. The steel is 3/8' thick, 500 Brinnel. The bullets disintegrate and have minimal if any impact on the steel.

SAFETY NOTE for the trolls: Based on viewer comments from other long distance shooting videos, some people fail to grasp the concept of private property. This is a modest tract of land in the family. Targets were on a hillside. Downrange and surrounding, there are thousands of acres of uninhabited property belonging to other landowners. I extensively check the property before and during all shooting sessions. Shooting lanes were setup in 2006 after evaluating topographic and satellite maps of this tract and those surrounding, not to mention property lines. Also, you can see from this video that the shooting lanes have a minimal impact on the environmental surroundings. There is not a living person who knows the lay of this land better than myself.

  • I've seen your videos numerous times, may I say you have one of the most beautiful AR's on youtube.

  • @topgunne12

Thanks! I need to do a "formal" review with closeups of them all.

  • AWESOME gun and very good shooting! I have a question, in your experience with AR's, what do you find to be the 1st thing to break or wear out and what's essential to keep extra of incase of a break down? Also do you prefer a 223 over 308 and why? Thx alot!

  • @MrAzcabowabo

Nothing has broken yet. It is essential to keep the bolt and it's internals clean and oiled. Do not let those components get fouled. I used to own a couple of AR-10 .308's but the cost of ammo was wiping me out. I do not reload, so I sold those for the .223's. I've owned at least one .223 for the past 10 years.

  • Nice camera quality, what kind is it?

  • Those are not vapor trails vapor trail are something you see behind an airplane what you are seeing is the air being compressed the air can get out of the way of the bullet fast enough. Cool vid tho

  • great consistency shooting , I did not see any misses

  • Would look SOOOOO cool if they were fired from a full auto.

  • Another great video!!

  • @tnoutdoors9

What about a ballistics review with some commercially available .223 and Sim-test media?

  • @luckeyma79 More precisely: it is a refraction of light through the denser wake in the air.

  • cavitation.

  • Trever it is bending LIGHT not pushing air out of the way, the air goes around the bullet. The air is in a sense being pushed out of the way but more so its reacting to an object moving.

But what you see is light being bent by the bullet.

  • do you use ear protection with high velocity ammunition? if so what kind?

  • @ThatDudeSirraj yea.. its pretty lame. we can however, smoke weed here... :P
