A song by the man who taught me how to play guitar. If you want to hear him play this better than me, go to

www.stevedevries.net/music

I'm playing a Taylor 414CE with a simple SM58 mic setup. This is a first attempt fingerstyle video.

Tell me what you think, and make sure you check out Steve DeVries. Great, great player and guy.

Alex

  • Just a heads up: the video seems to be having playback problems!

  • Very good indeed but why use a mic when the guitar has it's own integral pick up?

  • @UFOIST Though the Taylor Expression system is great for live performance, I feel it is too dry sounding for recording purposes. (Though it can be blended with a condenser to give different sounds.) Even though I was using an SM58, I still feel the "room" was better captured using an external microphone.

Nowadays, I would have used my SM27, a GREAT condenser mic. Sounds MUCH better for recording vocals/guitar. Check out my version of "Ave Maria" to hear the difference.

  • well now that is really quite something to behold, bravo that man, I like the Hendrix picture behind you as well, class. Not only fantastic guitar playing but fantastic sound as well

  • @UFOIST Pick ups only pick up the vibration, whereas a microphone picks up a lot more. In real studios, you never use a pick up to record acoustic guitar. Love the playing man!

  • What tuning was this in? I'd really love to do something like this. I'm guessing this was drop D and you had a capo covering the second fret of every string but the E string. So, your tuning would technically EBEAC#E, right?

  • Seriously who are the two people that didn't like this??? I am considering buying this guitar, thanks for showing it off. I wish I could find someone strumming it too so I could hear how it sounds strummed. Awesome job!

  • dude that's awesome!!!

  • EXCELLENT!!! great job!!!

  • that was so cool
