-
@RevengeOfGoku i know i can zoom in but thats sucks, because as you already sayd, you lose 20percent of the screen, But what is letter box?

Is there a app or cydia tweak so i can play movies in 16:9? i really need it because 4:3 sucks!

@fruitzy101 so you mister smart gui telling us that 16:9 720p movie can be displayed on ipad in full resolution? May i ask, what resolution it will be in such a case? Again -- we are talking about 16:9 with smaller side = 720 pixels. Make a math.

@timeflex if you were smart you would know that video resolution (720p) is determined by height (1280x720). Since the iPad height resolution is 768 pixels, that means it is more than capable than playing 720p content, but can go up 768p content (which doesn't matter since NOTHING comes in 768p [wtf?]). The width is what makes it harder for people to understand that they are watching HD content for it is1024 pixels wide (1024:768=4:3). Most laptops and 720p tv's come in 1366x768 pixels anyway.

@titifr21 torrents or itunes and make sure its mp4 format only

everyones transitioning from 4:3 to 16:9. Why couldn't apple stick with the proprietary 16 by 9? they had to settle for a hybrid of both. Just makes it more meddling.

that last movie they showed (with a frog) anybody knows what movie it is? Looked really fun
-
is the keyboard, like, full?

@Jonnybarbs more like you are an idiot lol
I don't think that 16:9 video in 720p can be played on iPad... unless, of course, it will be downscaled, but after that it will be 576p. Why? Let's see the iPad spec!
Screen resolution: 1024x768 (4:3)
So, if you keep the bigger size for 16:9 movie on 1024, the smaller one will be exactly 576. So, it is NOT a 720p in wide screen.
Of course, the downscale process will eat some CPU and battery resources.

@timeflex The interesting part about 720p videos is that the iPad seems capable of decoding them. It would need to decode the 72p video, before it can scale it down to adapt the content to the 10" display. Why does it matter? Because a lot of content is in 720p and if you don't need to process it before using it, it's better.

What are the video specs for that Up clip? 720p? Curious how long it will play before the battery goes dead. I know they claim 10 hrs, but no way it plays 10 hrs @ 720p... Any numbers for us? Thanks...

I'd love to answer these questions, but unfortunately, the specs aren't out yet. In theory, the movies could be 720p but we don't have a 100% confirmation at this point.
Also no independent test of the battery life have been done. 10 hours is probably the best case scenario - although Steve Jobs did say that he could watch video all the way from SF to Tokyo... again we'll have to wait until we have one in our hands.
