The filmmaker talks about his two "missing" films (missing from DVD distribution here in the States) and YouTube.

This clip comes from an interview for the show Media Funhouse. Info on the program can be found at our website, www.mediafunhouse.com and at our new blog, www.mediafunhouse.blogspot.com

  • Hal is one of my heroes!

  • Thankfully I have both Trust and Flirt on DVD (they're both available in Australia) but all his films are in dire need of good releases. If only Criterion would do a Hartley box-set. I would be in heaven! I agree with him about the quality not being so great with YouTube. It's no way to watch a fantastic movie like Trust.

  • @averysays Trust, I mean - not Flirt.

  • It is on Netflix

  • Hal don 't worry I have Flirt on Laserdisc.

  • i brought trust on vhs before dvd was that popular, I also have a collection of his short films as well that I got from somewhere when I was studying film theory, such a unique and beautiful director, his aesthetic is so good, I am trying to design a shoot at the moment and trying to achive a similar feel to trust visually and it is very hard, I think I have a whole new appreciation of his film making process.

  • I too Love Hal Hartley Movies and I Love Martin Donovan who is in many of his movies. I have looked for this DVD for years but can only get it on VHS in US...... At least I know the reason why now!!!!

  • @vincentpricesnephew interested to read this comment. I think he means " quality " as regards good copies of his films with crisp focus . He cant be blamed for wanting people to see his work in the detail he imagined it. With his views on piracy he doesn't seem to be precious for a arty type!

  • ive got them both! i love those movies!!!!!

  • he sounds like a fucking snob about "quality". the most important reason is to get your film scene. in this day-and-age-and-economy in the US quality is becoming a want and not a necessity

  • i'm so upset now that i will probably never get to see Trust on DVD. and i''ve never scene it and anywhere. AND i don't have the MONEY for a no region DVD PLAYER, HAL!!!
