As a follow-up to the previously uploaded 'Pt. Bhimsen Joshi - Raag Multani' video I uploaded, here is an excerpt of the same bandish (composition) sung nearly thirty-five years later; from Jalandhar, Punjab to Stuttgart, Germany.

This is only an excerpt of the forty-minute-long-plus Khayal sung by Pandit Bhimsen-ji in the 'Vocal Phenomenal Vol.2 CD by Chhanda Dhara, where he has also sung Raags Jaunpuri and Bhairavi.

All courtesy and rights go to Chhanda Dhara. I am solely uploading this out of respect and admiration for the performed items and, of course the great artist performing it.

In this recording, it is interesting to notice the style shift in Pandit-ji's singing as well as the element of age taking play, with this recording being more mature with Bhimsen-ji's age (at 70 years old) versus the youthfulness of the previous recording (at 35 years old).

Nevertheless, the greatness and scope that Pandit Bhimsen-ji has explored in both recordings is mind boggling.

When the Bharat Ratna was conferred upon Bhimsen-ji in January 2009, the goal of marking and comprehending the excellency of his music became a closer reality.

May all enjoy this recording as much as I have! : )

  • i agree with you totally. The jalandhar piece you need to hear it to realize the tempo and fury of the surs flowing. i especially love the point when he sings the word 'deendayal' . you need to rewind and hear it again and again to enjoy the high pitch of emotions depicted thru the surs.. He has sung it only once in the whole performance but if you miss it you have missed it
