you can put real fishing line instead of flossing wire

'id put a small amount of licorice in with the fishing hooks, fish love the sent of anise ( the smell and taste of licorice) just the smallest hint of it on the hooks would guarantee a catch, you could also use it for bait, and in a pinch you'll have something to eat.

@23jdcool I agree with you about the so called paramedic. Cheers.

How about making a situational daily survival bag. When I worked as a security guard overnight my survival bag included a comfortable eye blinds, a pair of good earplugs with a plug into my walkie talkie, an ebook reader, etc etc. I think I spent about an hour of real work and the rest of the night I got about six hours sleep. Survival packs need to be situational.

@DarkDinzers but the candles are so much more fun!!!!! And I will surely need the spirit lift in the wake of a nuclear attack! :)

very nice!
No offense but if a nuclear attack actually happened, absorbing radiation into your thyroid would be the least of your worries. lol Good idea with the candles though. I like that.

Following a nuclear event, radioactive iodine is released into the air and can be absorbed through the lungs and get into the body through food or through drink. Once radioactive materials get into the body the thyroid quickly absorbs it. Non-radioactive KI acts to block radioactive iodine from being absorbed. It would be a shame to survive a nuclear attack that happens in a neighboring state only to die a year later from fallout poisoning, especially when it's easily prevented.

@petepan3 Really? so exactly how large of a supply would you have to stockpile to keep yourself from getting poisoned? Do you suppose that you won't die of some other radiation sickness related disease other than thyroid? I think that if a nuclear strike happened you might as well just stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye. All those little tablets aren't going to help you in the long run. But I have been wrong before. Japan comes to mind in subjects like this.....

@HollowForm222 You don't need a huge stockpile, just enough to protect yourself till you can evacuate the contaminated region. I suppose in the event of a nuclear strike or meltdown we could stick our heads between our legs and kiss our asses goodbye :-D but then there is no point in survival preparedness. We are all going to die someday but I'd like to postpone that day as long as I can. After the Chernobyl meltdown 4,000 people died in nearby Belarus of thyroid cancer that didn't have to.
