At Wild Bill Hickok's funeral,Reverend Smith delivers a wonderfully eloquent tribute to the unity and equality of mankind. He testifies that by the spirit we are united into one body no matter who we are. I choose to believe (while others choose an elitist view) that he is saying that the simple fact that we are all fully human, that we all have a soul, joins all of us - whether we be humble or mighty, Jew or Gentile or anything else- into one common body of humanity. And although we may be different, all of us are important and necessary members of this body. Each one of of us are born with a purpose to fulfill. When certain members don't accept or deny the equal humanity of other members (i.e, we have a common spirit), but discriminate or exclude them, the body is made unwhole & sick. We should not allow there to be any schism among us caused by any force that denies our common spirit & dehumanizes (demonizes) some of us, be it religion, nationalism, racism, or classism. Instead, we should acknowledge, celebrate, and foster the union & communion we have with each other. Only by being whole are we being holy.

  • Acting at its finest......

  • @PeonSanders911 I agree with your comment & others: that the actor, Ray McKinnon, was incredible as Rev. Smith & that his speech in this scene is truly inspirational- it has much to say to all of us. I look forward to & will definitely be following Mckinnon's work in the future.

  • @lors27 There's no music playing in this scene, so I don't know what you mean by artist or song. Are you sure, you're not asking about a different scene?

  • Same here. I think he was the only truly good person in the show. He had no personal interest in whores, money or power nor was he trying to convert people by preaching. He was simply there for anyone who needed him. And look how God rewarded him for it :(

  • Looove the cinematography in this series..the first shot in this clip is a good reason why!

  • Another brilliant Deadwood performance...Such talent...and has such passion and reverence for his text...just awesome.
