http://www.dailygreenideas.com Your dishwasher uses a lot of energy, so we are going to show you how to wash dishes the eco-friendly way, by hand and without dishwasher detergent. Dishwasher detergent is detrimental to fish and wildlife, so it is best to avoid using it whenever possible. Lemon juice is the main ingredient in dishwasher detergents because it is a natural degreaser. Washing dishes this way will save you money on your electric bill and will help the environment by stopping the use of detergent soaps and substituting a natural degreaser like lemon juice instead.

  • Lemons are a tropical fruit. So are you saying we should truck lemons across the US in huge gas guzzeling trucks, to areas that don't have lemons so they can wash dishes with it? Seriously? You greenies make blood shoot out of my eyes!

Good point! I'm suggesting a different alternative to dish-washing detergents, which can be harmful to local wildlife. Chances are that most dish detergents are packaged in a plastic bottle that used petroleum products and also had to be shipped. There are many better alternatives to the detergents that we are using and to save water, and this is just one of many but maybe not the best : ) You do have a very good point, and thanks for pointing that out!

  • Yes and yes, and thanks for the add katie! I haven't updated this in forever along w/ the blog. I've been so busy with the business lately. That's a good thing though : p
