You're damned right he does--and THAT'S why Rumsfeld got in trouble because he had the auto pen signing the letters to the families of the Veterans who died.
If you don't know anything about how this works, try to edjimicate yourself before you start arguing with adults who can deal with issues of hypocrisy and ignorance and who push back against partisan bullshit artists like Uncle Bimbo and his Dork Five band of man babies...

Yes he did--he got it wrong.
She didn't know the name at all.
She, as a sitting member of Congress, should have been able to rifle that one back down his throat--she blew it.
Shuster is, in fact, a mediocre journalist.
Blackburn is a member of Congress who doesn't give a shit about Veterans.
Now, which one of those two people sits and writes the laws which affect the American people? Who SHOULD be squared away?
It's a sad day when the bar is that low.

APaleRider,
David Shuster is a scum-ball, who engages in gutter journalism, and he actually caught Congresswoman Blackburn off guard with this "gotcha' game. When put on the spot she drew a blank, but has done alot for the Military.
The ironic thing is Shuster had to APOLOGIZE, because he got the name wrong also and used a name that wasn't in her District.
Next time David Shuster wants to play this ugly kind of game, he should at least get his facts straight.

You're right--it's ONLY the name of the soldier from her district killed in a war.
What was I thinking? You know, thanks for clearing up the fact that YOU don't think a member of Congress ought to know the names of the soldiers from their district who are killed BEFORE they go in front of the cameras and try to lie about why we're there.

I didn't realize that taking a foreign policy position required memorizing names. Thanks for clearing that up.
Marsha Blackburn owns.

Does this mean that the President needs to know the names of all the soldiers and marines that die?
What about a Senator? Do they need to know just the names of the dead soldiers in their state. Or, since there are two Senators per state, do they each need to know 1/2 of the names?
I am not really familiar with this requirement, so hopefully you can fill me in.
Thanks.
