Transnet Freight Rail Class 34-000s at Kimberley in a brewing lightning storm

General Electric U-boats no's. 34-027 and 34-111 slowly chug out of Kimberley Station with a southbound 'Pride of Africa' landcruise.

They sound lovely don't they?

The booming sound is not always wind, but an electrical storm which deposited approximately 75cm of water in 30 minutes and flooded my mother-in-law's street.

Great video and thanks for posting. Class 34s have a really awesome roar at full throttle.I often travel from Jhb down to PE on the overnight Shosholoza run where the 6Es are replaced by 2 of these beasts on a section which is as yet not electrified.Then switch to single 7E on the final run. In 1993 I had the pleasure of travelling on this Rovos train from Cape Town up to Jhb and making our way through parts of the Karoo and Free State behind class 25NC and 19D steam locos. What fun that was
