Smoking Fingers Science Magic Trick

Here is an easy and fun science magic trick for you. The smoking fingers trick is a classic demonstration in which you rub your fingers together to produce smoke. The smoke is actually vaporized phosphorus from a match striker box. While modern safety matches use non-toxic red phosphorus, there's no guarantee you aren't changing the form of the phosphorus, so gloves are a good idea, just in case. In any event, the amount of phosphorus you're using is small. You'll most often see the phosphorus obtained by burning a matchbox striker over a cold running faucet, but that isn't necessary. You can use any glass or metal dish. If you chill the dish in the freezer, you'll get especially good results.
