  • meh so you're saying anyone could learn to become a astronaut :p ?

but you need a diploma of some kind right ?

  • A NASA astronaut takes training, years and years of training. Even if you're accepted only about 1/2 of the NASA astronauts have even gone to space.

If you want to go above the space barrier (100KM) and experience zero-g you can take a sub-oribital flight starting either next year or in 2011 from Virgin Galactic for $200k. If that is too expensive XCOR will be cutting the price in half and that trend will continue.

We're about to reach and era where anyone can go to space!

  • I would love to go in space

  • Virgin Galactic will make this possible. then XCOR then Armadillo Aerospace... 2010 is the year human space flight all changes.

  • At least for this launch it was not nearly as loud as I thought it was. You didn't need year plugs! I was in the VIP seating area three miles away (same distance as seen in the is video). The crowd screaming around me when it lifted off was louder than the shuttle. A close lighting bolt with its thunder is louder than what I experienced. Maybe the day I was there the wind was such the sound waves didn't reach us as well. But I will say this, the flame was as bright as the sun! Very cool!

  • Hmmm... I hope you're right but it seems to me that Ive been hearing that for about 10 years or so. Thats the thing with the space program , everyone gets so excited like a small child a few days before Christmas that we don't think about the outside variables such as the economy and government spending. Its like it always takes so much longer than predicted. I hope you're right though!!!

  • I'm curious to how loud it is there. Earplugs required, or is it like thunder in the distance?

  • thanks for the info!

(in 50 years kids will be like *sigh* i dont wanne go to space dad i wanne play with my robot at home!!!*inside joke*)

  • I went last month when they scrubbed it twice due to hydrogen leaks

  • I went to the first 3 attempts last weekend on Sat, Sun, and Mon. No Luck!!! Glad to see it finally went though

  • At this point, i would do anything to be a astronaut, Join the army, Join the Military, Space camp.

i want to become one really bad
