The first Baten Kaitos developed by monolith studios being run on the dolphin emulator for computer.

Dolphin emulator revision 7671.

Computer specs:
Windows 7 64bit
Phenom II X4 945 @ 3.3ghz
Radeon 4870
4GB DDR2

Early gameplay video. Game runs fairly smooth, better if I was not recording it. I see slight slowdown rarely in specific areas and a drop as battles load in. The game does not support widescreen and is mostly comprised of 2d images. You can play in actual widescreen which is just stretched or regular 4:3 as I have. Widescreen hack does fix anything 3d in the image to the correct proportions but not the 2d pictures meaning the 3d and 2d would then not match up on a 1:1 correlation, you don't want to do it basically.

Emulator seemingly can't get some 2d images to work properly. Many things that can appear both over and under a character, a table that you could walk infront of or partially behind depending where you are, shows up only as background and never foreground. You can see this at 3:57 and 7:00. Game also fails to show part of the action in fights when getting attacked as you see at 3:19, this seems random and rare however. Overall it runs well with some quirks that I can forgive given the clean image the emulator puts out.

Slight audio popping occurs which I haven't quite figured out. Seems to be better when run off an emulated drive rather than the iso itself but I haven't tested enough.

  • may i ask how well your pc can handle the more intense wii games like twilight princess or mario galaxy?

just for comparison for my new pc, thanks :)

  • @Od1n89 Mario galaxy, probably not well at all. I've been doing almost only gamecube games for the time being because the few wii titles I've tried run just barely at their regular framerate at best. I'd love to have a sandybridge for this. The emulator is crazily cpu hungry and doesn't care much for your graphics card as long as it's decent, so take that into account if you kind of want to build towards it. I think TP runs better than the galaxy games but in total those are some of the toughest

  • cool =] I just downloaded this and the sequel, it actually looks WAY better on dolphin than the actual gamecube - if you ahve a good enough computer to run it with anti aliasing and multi-sampling and higher native resolution.

  • @Bidon45 Totally. Playing wii and especially gamecube on tv's these days...they just weren't designed for that. I ran into the emulator after trying out p.n. 03 just a little while back. I remember how great it looked on some crappy sdtv back in like '04, which it did not on my 1080p set now, but with this it looks better than it ever has.

  • wow these graphics are amazing to this day.

  • @cubansupreme my zelda video IS the gamecube version, so yeah lol.

  • @Bidon45 have u tried the gamecube port of skies of arcadia on dolphin? if so, how did that turn out? not quite as well for me so i have to decide if i should get either the gamecube port or the sega dreamcast version of that game.

also, u do know there's a gamecube version of twilight princess right -_- (sees 1 of your videos of the wii version of twilight princess)?

  • i seem to get some sort of shader problem with the game that kind of shuts down the emulator whenever i complete the Giacomo boss battle. it's like every few minutes, the emulator would just stop working on me with this game -_-.

  • I downloaded mine from Romstation, and when i have to deal with cards (arrange decks, it lags pretty bad at like 1 FPS and 2 % of normal speed... i can run everything else tho

  • @Vortextk Agreed. I had the same experience with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight princess. I just put a video up actually of how it plays and looks on dolphin on my system [although the video is jittery for the first 30 seconds so if you do watch it just skip ahead a little bit]. The only complaint I have with dolphin is that tales of symphonias music doesn't emulate properly =[ - which is a shame, its one of the best GC games hands down.
