Craftsman Electric Lawn Mowers are quieter, more energy-efficient and less expensive alternatives to gas-powered mowers with providing ample power to handle most yards.
Naaaaah. Don't buy it, I'm sticking with my petrol / gasoline whatever you want to call it mower, it's a Honda and never lets me down and is really fuel efficient. Also there are huge advances in small engine technology going on right now making them more fuel efficient and a good option, also biofuels becoming more common too, I'm sticking with my petrol mower, just something about an engine makes me smile :]
Again, these are reasons why I want to find an older Craftsman '70s-'80s mower, whether sold here (in the USA) or in Canada. The Canadian-market mowers, from 1976 to circa 1987, had the "Power Boost" feature that allowed you to mow at a higher speed for heavier, taller grasses.
Our Craftsman Electric Lawn mower worked great the first year, but then battery life became a major issue. First year we could mow for about an hour. Second year about 40 minutes. Third year now and we're down to about 20 minutes before it dies. New batteries are $175 and there doesn't appear to be a way to change the battery at home. Battery is a major design flaw. We like the mower, and like being green, but are very disappointed by the battery life of this Craftsman mower.
Hell yeah Craftsman! I've replaced my gas powered mower and weed trimmer with this mower, the 48 volt cordless mower and the C3 weed trimmer and am EXTREMELY happy with them.
Thanks for allowing me to go green and STILL have a buttload of power!
Sorry, but my favorite Craftsman electric lawn mowers are from the 1970s and early 1980s. Models such as 9138, 91382, 91384, 91411 and 91412. I have a 1983 model 91412 twin-blade with the CPSC-compliant motor switch in which the motor shuts off when you let go of the switch (instead of the old slide-type switch in which the motor stays running when in ON position).
Model 9138 was the one with the orange deck and had the "Power Boost" button for cutting heavier grass.
Have the Craftsman 19 inch "Premium" electric (corded, not battery) and am very pleased with the performance. For a small lawn, they make sense. The mulching worked great. A cord is not for everyone, though, and required some patience and strength to keep moving the cord out of the way.
Reliability is also great, no maintenance, no dead spark plugs, no seasonal tune ups, or smoke. Just push the power button.
Would recommend a 12 gauge 100 foot cord to properly deliver current.
