I have had those random huge cuts on me. They vary in size, but they never hurt for some reason.

The monsters you're thinking of from Final Fantasy would be Malboros, I believe. I'd hate to see you give up on this game, but if you're not really enjoying it, it's understandable. It's a great game, if you're into it. Deep storyline and all. But, you do what you want, it's your channel ^_^

Yeah, I get Cuts in my sleep too, it turned out to be the zipper on my pillow case was really sharp and I have a habit of sleeping with my arm under the pillow so it cuts, I just used some sandpaper on the zipper and and the cuts became less frequent(thought I still get them from from my fingernails and stuff it seems)

Please don't drop this game, I find it strangely entertaining... I also have the cutting problem, I just thought that I scratch myself till I cut myself.
