Through the auspices of a glamorous but somewhat seedy procurer named The Contessa (Anne Bancroft), Mrs. Stone is paired off with the studdish Paolo (Olivier Martinez), who is several years Karen's junior. What begins as merely a passionate physical attraction quickly deepens into true love -- but Mrs. Stone may be far more enamored of the mercenary Paolo than he is of her.

Yes, nicely shot, and I love Helen Mirren but this was a total mistake, especially French jeune-premier Olivier Martinez cast as the Italian gigolo Paolo...wrong! She is very brave to bare all, he barely shows half his ass! The 1961 film, with a magnificent Vivien Leigh as Karen Stone and a young, very beautiful Warren Beatty as Paolo, is really incomparable. Why do American idiots try and remake classic films which shouldn't be touched?

i watched this on tv and i was drawn to it immediately upon seeing helen mirren in it and 3 minutes into it i was hooked! everything was perfect in this movie..helen mirren is a godsend!
