David Gibb and Peter Baird [SCPI PDC Graduates] led a strawbale building at Southern Cross Permaculture Institute in South Gippsland [Victoria, Australia] workshop in December 2009.

A Strawbale Bunkhouse attached to the rear of our existing mudbrick classroom was constructed in just six days!

  • fun video thank you!!

by the way, what was the exact cost for building this? What is the square footage?

    sophie

  • @paxelsen cost was under $10k AUS, the thick concrete slab floor probably being the most expensive part of the build. Dimensions approx 250sq ft, though it feels much bigger due to the lofted ceilings (20 ft +)

  • @NavyBlueSTL - gotta love Jack Johnson soundtracks ;-)

  • @lourdesmac: ...you probably could! there are strawbale houses that have been built in urban areas, although it may not be the most appropriate material for your climate zone. Thanks for watching!!

  • Thanks for the video. Love the music lyrics as well.

  • Thank you so much for sharing. I loved it! I wish I could do this in the Miami suburbs where I live.
