The Dixie Chicks defend their famous Bush bashing comments at the premiere of their documentary Shut Up & Sing.

Shut Up & Sing, the Barbara Kopple documentary chronicling the Dixie Chicks three-year tour from the United States to London in support of their Taking The Long Way CD in the eye of singer Natalie Maines' Bush bashing backlash had it's New York premiere. Natalie recalls what it is she said that sent tremors throughout right wing America.

@rreiter2 No, her comment wasn't like shouting fire. It was more like an entertainer who had no vested interest in the war (face it, these bitches were going on tour while their fan base was kissing friends and family goodbye ) deciding they could pander to an anti-war crowd and get away with it. We had a year runup to that war, and during that time, Nat said nothing. Only when they stood to profit from it, did Maines stop their concert to tell what she later referred to as a JOKE. Epic Fail.

@Earthlinked So...you're saying people should NEVER voice any disagreeing opinions? Free speech is either allowed or it's not. You can't put freedom of speech in the constitution and then say "Wait! Except at this time!" And her comments were in NO WAY comparable to shouting "fire" in a public place. Her words were not threatening, and didn't induce any kind of panic. It was an opinion, and opinions are what this country is based on.
