Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Sonata No. 8 in B flat major, Op. 84, the third of his three War Sonatas, was composed between 1939-1944 and premiered 30 December 1944 in Moscow by Emil Gilels.
Such a great piece!...and I've never heard Gilels play it. The only performance I know well is Ashkenazy's. This Gilel performance is a fantastic - much more viceral power than Ashenazy's. Thank you for posting it!
Thanks for uploading! I think, this is the only rendition on YT that can rival Richter's performance in depth. Too much coughing on this live recording, though :-(
