Christians are jumping to take credit for Christopher Hitchens' cancer, imagining their own desires as indistinguishable from those of their personal God. A Theist said it best:

"Theocracy is the worst of all governments. If we must have a tyrant, a robber baron is far better than an inquisitor. The baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity at some point be sated; and since he dimly knows he is doing wrong he may possibly repent. But the inquisitor who mistakes his own cruelty and lust of power and fear for the voice of Heaven will torment us infinitely because he torments us with the approval of his own conscience and his better impulses appear to him as temptations." --C.S. Lewis

  • You make me realize that its almost more insulting to religious people to calmly explain that you understand why they're so ignorant than it is to present arguments that you falsely assume they'll understand.

  • @Nerd0042 I really don't know what works on religious people. I kind of expected at least a few of them to understand the point I was trying to make, but most of the people who commented just trotted out the "no true Christian" mantra. The rest took refuge in threats. So predictable.

  • Your voice is like a female Sam Harris. Except somehow more calm.

  • @Nerd0042 Aw, thank you!

  • @bennyjohnhampson I live in Oregon and I'm moving to Alberta, Canada--so it's quite a distance. I'll come to visit you as soon as I invent a teleporter. :-P

  • @bennyjohnhampson Would you like to visit Greenwich with me sometime? I live there. Abit random. But you never know? ;)

  • @flugelcue "I speak and write you language better then most of your fellow countrymen i rest my case."

I keep coming back to these statements and trying to decipher them. "My fellow countrymen?" Besides, who told you that "its about the content not the form"? Some forms of writing are so cumbersome and confusing that the content is obscured. Don't get me wrong--I might agree with you, if I could know what you are actually saying.

  • @bennyjohnhampson Thanks! :-)

  • you're gorgeous ;)

  • Looking at the comments by these christians....It reminds me why I am not one!
