Most of these surge suppressors start to degrade after about 6 months - another point - joules aren't a good way to gauge the effectiveness - this is old terminology and not of any real value - it's too vague - it's pure marketing - there are too many possible variables on how they determine the joules. The only way to really know is to have them tested - good luck with that one.
