  • @shayeasy Roland uses the "brand names" for product placement for customers. While I think the Jupiter-80 has average, or most of the time, AWFUL sounds, there's nothing wrong with the naming scheme.

The Jupiter name encompasses a bigger "workstation" release, and the JUNO name encompasses more for those who do quick gigs or something.

  • I personally think JP80 is way better than Kronos although I like Kronos keyboard.

  • @chiefsynthguru i know it's technically a synthesizer, but look at all the demo videos - organ, piano, trumpet, marimba, acoustic bass. all sample-based sounds. from what i've heard the synth engine doesn't bring much to the table that isn't already available in the v-synth or gaia. like they did with the recent juno releases, they're invoking the jupiter name for nostalgia's sake, without any semblance of the original's sound or character.

  • Somebody who has one of these, please dive into patch-edit mode and change the sample from an acoustic bass to a moog bass and add some filter resonance.

  • As most musicians are saying, I also agree that this is a disgrace to the Jupiter. Again, mostly useless sounds...

  • From what I’ve experienced at guitar center, musicians may start shouting Jup-80 instead of beast when they need a word to describe an amazing synthesizer…LOL!

Seriously, this thing’s beyond beastly, I’m picking one up as soon as possible!

  • really impressive sound quality and a skilled player. as far as i can tell, roland really did a great job on the engine.

but where's the "jupiter" in all of this? no demo of its VA capabilities? maybe one or two pads, synthstrings and leads wouldn't have hurt to appease all "JP-80 is evil" shouters.

looking forward to see more of that.

  • @shayeasy: If you think the Jupiter-80 is a workstation than you shouldn’t comment on it nor should you consider buying one. It’s a professional synthesizer and it most likely exceeds your scope of understanding at this time. But Casio makes fine equipment that I think may suit your needs, my son has one and he loves it, I recommend you start there and work your way up to something like a Jupiter-80. It’s awesome, I plan on getting one but it's better if you start small and work up to this.

  • the jupiter was a synthesizer, not a workstation. this is a disgrace to a classic instrument.
