@savoiesuzuki Its to help prevent objects from getting wedged between the brake lever and frame. They are especially useful when riding in the desert races when sage brush and other stout weeds could get stuck and affect braking ablilty. Get a branch from a sage brush wedged in there and you'd be lucky to stay on 2 wheels:) But in SX & MX, my guess its to keep out the tuffblock covers and things like that. But there may be other purposes for it that I'm not aware of....
