  • He was at the Altamont Old Songs Festival (Albany NY area) the last weekend of June 09 - still great. I had a request from the old days, from The Main Point in Bryn Mawr, - requested several months in advance I might add - and he performed it at the Sunday afternoon concert: MEADOWLANDS on the 12-string. Still a great performer! Oh yeah, and who of us from back then hasn't changed 'just a bit' lol. (BTW, he wasn't wearing waders - they looked more like desert boots to me.)

  • Shall I post more of Michael? I think that I have quite a bit more. I guess I underestimated the interest.

  • Great song. Great performer. I got a chance to hear him perform at a benefit for Sing Out magazine in the early 70's, and at a Pinewoods sponsored event sometime later. Amazingly versatile performer. 6 and 12 string guitar , fretless banjo, and concertina. Thanks for posting.

  • I'm an olde PFF / PFSS and Michael Cooney aficionado from the 1960s/70s. Saw Michael in many venues Glad to see the comments. Live now in L.A. and my guitar is missing buddies for jamming.

  • Great. I miss his story telling

  • Please do post more. And start a campaign to get Michael to do some DVDs.

  • @dh6dh6 Wow, great to hear from you, David! I was at the PFF in '69, '70, and maybe '71 or '72, but just remember Michael--who told the hillside who the author, 'from Ann Arbor, Michigan," was--so maybe it was when you weren't there. Michael would no doubt thumbs-up the idea of a great song that's gotten around so without a recording, but are there really no recordings of it?

  • @EricFlatpick - Hey, it's David Hughes. Did you hear Michael and me (w Bromberg on dobro) sing "Footprints" at Philly Folk Festival ca 1971? I've been living in England and Japan since 1977 (researching & writing about Japanese folk song), so have hardly seen Michael, who's up in Maine now, since the 1980s. Wonder if he still sings it sometimes.... Anyone have a recording of our spontaneous Philly performance? I've always wanted to hear it.

  • @Taylor510ceL9 Yes!!! Please, Please He is a wonderful entertainer. A pleasure to see at the Philly Fok Fest
