Wow. Who knew Bjork's fans were a bunch of opinionated, close-minded plebes?
The Decemberists are a fucking incredible band honoring a fucking incredible singer. Just the same as Bjork has her own singing style (that MANY would call grating), Colin Meloy has his. He's also a vastly superior songwriter.

his voice is weird at first but then when you get used to it it gets better

This is the Bjork song that started it all for me...I love that one of my favorite bands is covering her! Yay!

I LIKE squidward....

@BecauseAlexWasBored THANK YOU!!! Finally, someone gets it. His voice is about 1/4 of the reason why I like this band. 1/4 voice, 1/4 lyrcs, 1/4 instruments, and 1/4 performances.

I like the Decemberists, but this is very, very horrible. His voice isn't flexible enought to carry off quarter tones. He just sounds out of tune and a bit minging :/
-
I don't know why people are freaking out and insulting Colin's falsetto. The weirdness of his voice is intentional!

I seem to remember there was a time when The Decemberists had an uploads page on their web site, where fans could share recordings of Decemberists doing various wacky cover tunes. This was just after 'The Tain' was released in early 2004, when I could see them at a 900-seat venue in San Francisco :). Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

the beginning takes a bit time getting used to, but once the bass sets in at 0:57... well, I like it :)
