@philkohan - you can set your local area under the local section. Once you set that the route feature will automatically focus on your location. In the absence of a local setting it will try to get the location of your internet service provider - which sometimes will be local - but more often these days will not be local...

I can't seem to set my location so when I click onto trace my route, it will go to my zip code. Right now it is set to trace my route in Bulgaria and I can't change the default to my town. How can I change it????

@atutengil you just have to not click the follow roads and you will be able to click anywhere.

what about cross country not going by any roads just across fields woods etc ?
