History and Evolution
HAWK system (Homing All the Way Killer) was developed in the USA in 1956 since when it has been continually updated. Today, 50 years later, it has the ability to meet the demands of a modern combat field. Initially, it was introduced as BASIC HAWK and later on, through HIP modernisation programme (HAWK IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM), it went under different phases (Phase I, Phase II, Phase II RAM, Phase III, Phase III mobility improvement). At the same time, some European countries (Germany, France, Netherlands etc) followed their own system improvement programme (HELIP HAWK EUROPEAN LIMITED IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM).
History of Hellenic HAWK Battalions
Operational and technical personnel of the first Hellenic HAWK Battalion (180 HAWK Guided Missile Battalion) was initially trained in the USA in 1964.
In 1965, equipment was received and organisation was completed, while in 1966, the Battalion was deployed in Attica and Euboea, where it is actually stationed.
In 1973, the second HAWK battalion was organised in Athens (181 HAWK Guided Missile Battalion) and in 1974, it was transferred to Thessalonica where it is actually stationed.
HAWK system was initially introduced in Greece as BASIC HAWK, in 1976 it was upgraded to IMPROVED HAWK PHASE II and in 1990, to PHASE II RAM.
In September 1999, its upgrade to PHASE III started and was completed in July 2006. Αρχικά εμφανίστηκε σαν BASIC HAWK και στη συνέχεια μέσω του προγράμματος εκσυγχρονισμού HIP (HAWK IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM) πέρασε από διάφορα στάδια (Phase I, Phase II, Phase II RAM, Phase III, Phase III mobility enhancement).

  • @StormbringerRuler Yes they're in the same boat as Ireland,Portugal,Spain. In the financial markets they refer to the 4 countries as "the pigs" not a very nice term but it's talking about their financial situation. I see the IMF came and bailed out Ireland with over a 100 billion, they still need to make the interest payments though on that bailout, i hope it all works out. I think some court cases should be had for the ppl who rort the system and have brought these countries to the brink also

  • @73mandala And ok we're not a superpower but we're not in such a bad spot. Memeber of the EU, and we do have a good economy. Greece IS making money. They're just being spent in stupid things and of course, most of it is stolen by politicians, big companies etc etc. But like i said, to me that's not a weird thing. It's just how capitalism works. Maximizing the profit of the big heads while the others get poorer. Exactly what happens to Greece today.
