Lyrics and notes below the tab. Here is the fourth and final song in my song cycle, Tales of the Hook: A Pirate Halloween. I had hoped to market this in 2010, but Halloween snuck up on me, so, I'm sharing this demo of "Side 1" right now, and I'll be pushing the finished work in 2011.

This is a ten-minute epic, a ghost story set at sea. It's got a bit of everything; romance, murder, piracy, it's a mini-movie for your ears.

Isabella

I came to serve aboard the galleon Isabella
To guard the riches in her hold
We brought the trade to Port Royal from San Estrella
Of rum and indigo, and gold

Her merchant owner sailed on board
A crooked bitter overlord

He'd named the ship after his daughter Isabella
More lovely than the Spanish tide
And men had tried to woo with love songs a cappella
Those men were beaten 'til they died

If you should see her walk the decks by night
They say you'd best avert your eyes

I had the upper watch one cold clear night
I saw her shivering in a glint of light
She called me by my name, and whispered low
I know a secret place that we can go

And in the treasure hold I kiss you
You melt away like April snow
Am I the only one who sees you?
Am I the only one who knows?

And you reveal the scars of torment
When did the old man have you killed?
I beg you stay with me forever
I'll be your vengeance if you will

And so you bade me see it through
Now I know what I must do

First faint light of day, got my pistol tucked away
Creeping to the old man's cabin, oh my Isabella
Room guarded, planned a bribe, but they only stand aside
Like they were expecting us, my Lady Isabella

There lies the murd'ring goat, plunge my cutlass in his throat
Gasping out his last breath, Why, my Isabella,
Two shots, captain dead, cut the first mate as he fled
Now I am the leader of the Galleon Isabella

- - Avast ye lads, see we fly another flag
(All hail Lady Isabella, We serve Lady Isabella)
Three skulls, bleeding heart, 'neath this banner we will chart
A new course rife with riches, every man is king!

I do your bidding, Oh my Lady Isabella
Oh bless me with your chilling kiss
Our victory dance could be a jig or tarantella
The dance of death to the abyss

Ship ahoy! Loot and destroy!

When we find a hideaway, in a cove beyond the bay
(All hail Lady Isabella, We serve Lady Isabella)
We'll divide the riches there, every pirate gets his share
(All hail Lady Isabella, We serve Lady Isabella)

Hurry boys, now we're in luck, here's another bird to pluck
See if they put up a fight! Raise the flag, now they're in our sight!

The mast is burned, the hull is foundered
For every crime there is a cost
I only killed so I could free you
My Lady all too soon is lost

I see your face above the water
Just as the ocean takes us down
And how much longer will I see you?
Oh, will you haunt me 'til I drown?
